Streamlining the process of collecting and documenting results is something every laboratory strives for, but there are many challenges involved in doing so, especially when limited to using only paper and spreadsheet tools for this control.

LIMS Automation

Of all the functions offered by a modern LIMS, accurate acquisition and communication of test results is a core requirement.

Basically, there are two ways to enter result data into a LIMS: manually, or directly from the test instruments.

Entering results manually is clearly quite common, but it introduces the possibility of transcription errors, especially when results are first written down in a notebook and only later entered into the LIMS.

Direct integration of instrumentation with the LIMS eliminates this possibility and helps meet data integrity and validity requirements.

Data Integrity

The integrity of data throughout the validation process is essential to ensure compliance with GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) standards.

Data integrity refers to the completeness, consistency, and accuracy of data. Complete, consistent, and accurate data must be attributable, legible, recorded contemporaneously, and either original or a true and accurate copy.

Direct entry of result data into the LIMS not only eliminates transcription errors, but also delivers higher levels of automation and improves laboratory efficiency.

Many laboratories handle thousands of samples per year, with multiple tests performed on each sample.

Manually entering all of these test results can be time-consuming, so direct data transfer can lead to a substantial improvement in laboratory efficiency.
